ACETYLENE GAS EXPLOSION
NARROW ESCAPES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson, Yesterday. An explosion of acetylene gas in the generator shed of Mr. M. R. May's establishment at Richmond blew out the shed, and nine or ten were injured, including Mr. R. May, his nm, and a man named David Hight, an employee. Mr. May had lit a match in the shed, where escaping gas caught alight and the explosion followed. Hight is the worst injured, as he was buried in the debris of a portion of the shed. Mr. May and his son were literally blown out of the shed, and it was a marvel they escaped with only bruises and abrasions, Mr. May's beard being nearly burnt off. Only yesterday May's butter factory at the same establishment was burnt down.
