EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATIONS
AT ASHBTJIRTON. By Telegra/ph—Press Association. Alshburton, Last Night. Postponed Empire Day celeJbrations were held to-day, when speeches were delivered in the Domain iby the Rev. R. E. Davies, M.A., of Dunedin, and Mr. W. Nosworthy, M.P. The "Old 'Hundredth" and the National Anthem were sung, and children's sports were held in the afternoon. The celebration was shorn of its most attractive features through the absence of the military forces and by reason of mourning on account of the death of King Edward. The function was poorly attended aa compared with (previous years.
