INGLEWOOD NOTES.
(;■;•'.:■] Our Own Correspondent.)
Inglewood, Saturday
The contractors are making good progress with the erection of the fine block of shops opposite the Post Office for Mr. Curtis. This block will make a marked improvement to the appearance of the town.
■A start Ims also been made with the erection of the technical school. This l building has been considerably talked about, and it is sincerely to be hoped that when it is completed the public will be sufficiently alive to the benefits to be derived from technical education as to see that the classes do not languish for want of attendance. | The Foresters intend shortly to commence the erection of a lodge room. A site has been obtained in a central position.
Mr. W. Ogier, our genial town clerk,! has been suffering from a severe cold for the past few days. It is expected that he will be about again in a few days. The erection fo a bridge over the Manganui river is still being discussed. At the first meeting the settlers were in favor of a suspension ibridge, owing to its cheapness. Further deliberations have since taken place, and as an outcome it is' understood that a loan will be raised sufficient to erect a concrete bridge. This is undoubtedly a wise course, as the concrete bridge will certainly cost more, but it will be a permanent structure requiring very little upkeep, whereas a. suspension bridge could only carry a limited load, would always be requiring repairs, and, before the loan had been paid back, would i probably need rebuilding altogether. ]
