DR HOCKEN'S WILL.
EXTENSIVE BEQUESTS. | By Telegraph—Press Association. | Dunedin, Last Night. Probate of the will of the late 'Dr.' Hocken was granted by the Supreme Court to-day. The will and codical devises everything to executors, upon trust to sell, subject in each case to the widow's life interest, as, follows:—(1) 1900 shares in National Insurance Co., 522 shares in the Westport Coal Co., 2240 shares in the Standard Insurance Co., 050 s'hares in the Talisman Consolidated Mining Co., for the University of Otago;' (2) to sell 45 shares in the Dunedin Stock Exchange prop, 201 shares in the Mosgiel Woollen Co., and 227 shares in Messrs. Whitcombe and Tombs; on trust for the Diocesan Board, to be held to provide out of income for the increase of the stipends-' of the poorer Anglican clergy in the diocese of Dunedin; (3) to sell six debentures! in the Fernhill Cliib Co., 10(5 shares in the National Bank of N,Z., on trust to the Diocesan Board to apply the income to the Maori Mission Board'; (4) 100 shares in the Port Chalmers Uas Co., 250 shares in Mason Struthers and Co., and 100 shares in the Junction Dredging Co. (Victoria), on trust for the Salvation Army, to be applied equally for the Maternity Home at Dunedlm, the Rescue Home at Dunedin, and the Children's Home at Middlemareh; (5) 75 shares in the Trustee Executors Co., 250 shares in the Taupiri Coal Co., 400 shares in the Brunswick Cement Co., on trust for the Public Art Gallery; (6) 100 shares in the Dannevirke Gas Co., 1 275 shares in the Phoenix Confectionery Co., on trust for the Trinity Methodist Church at Dunedin.
The will provides that if anv shares are sold under power of call given to the trustee, the money realised is to be] applied in the same manner as if the shares had not been sold. Dr. Hocken has left 100 guineas to his cook. After other bequests', Miss] Hoeken receives the residue of the, estate. j
It is stated in the will that the testator is confident that the citizens of Dunedin will provide a yearlv salary for the librarian in charge of the Hocken collection. The value of the estate is sworn at under £26,000.
