OUR NEW GOVERNOR
—■ ♦ APPRECIATION BY LORD PLUNKET.< By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. In the course of his reply when presented with a citizens' address to-day, Lord Plunket made the following reference to the new Governor, Lord Islington:—''l hope when J. go to Australia to be able to give my successor, whom [ expect to meet there, some idea of the good, interesting, and impressive time he j is going to have in this country. 1 think you in the town of Dunedin and its, municipality will have much to 'be proudj of that you will have a man who, apart from .his .position of Governor, will appeal to you, because Lord Islington has taken a particular interest in municipal' enterprise and municipal well-being.. Lord Islington is a very thorough man. When he takes up a thing he carries it through, and one of the things he has taken the deepest interest in (tiiouirh I have done, so, too, to a certain extent J but not as much as he) is municipal, work. He has done an enormous amount of good in England, especially in London, in connection with the general welfare of the working classes. lie has helped greatly in this connection with the erection of model dwellings for working men, ami although you don't require" them here nearly so much as the people in the Old Country do, 1 am sure' you will agree that you require a great many more here than you have at the .present time."
