HOMING.
NEW PLYMOUTH EAST CLUB. The 'New East Flying Club have during the .past week successfully flown two important races, the first event being a flock race termed the Sires Produce Stakes, from Palmerston North, 130 miles distant, the birds competing in this event being youngsters bred from old birds that were nominated early in the season. Seven members participated, and keen interest was shown, tile winner becoming the .possessor of a trophy presented by the club. The birds were kindly liberated by the stationmaster, and all homed to their respective loft* during the afternoon. The weather was unfavorable and against high velocities being recoiled. The places were filled 'by the following: —H. J. Moverley's King Billy, 3hr 7min, 1; W. Bransgrove's Velox, 3hr 7min 3l)sec, 2; F. James' Pilot and W. H. Boulton's No. 558. 3hv Train 4l)see, 3; H. Arnold's Sea Wave, 3hr 9min 30see, 4. The second event was an interval race flown from Wanganui, 80 miles, ten minutes elapsing between the liberation of each bird, eight members competing. The weather was aaain unfavorable, a north-west wind with heavy 'showers and a cloudy sky preventing fast progress being made. The birds were liberated by Mr. C. Annabel!, and a message on the' last bird put up read, "Birds all left well: weather bad for first birus, but now improving." The winning bird showed .keenness in getting through, ;;nd put up a creditable 'performance. The result was as follows: —H. J. Moverlev's Royal Salute, 2hr 48min, 1; W. 11. Boulton's Ma'hara, 3hr 'Kimin 30sec, 2; h. Mefiahey's Akaroa, 3hr ISmin 2()sec, 3; W. Gleeson's Red Tips, 3,hr 27niin, 4. The next event to be decided by tfte club will be the young bird champion interval, to be flown from Wanganui next week, the winner to become the holder of a silver cup kindly donated to the club by Mr. A. Lovegrove, the cup to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals.
