STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From our. Special Correspondent). Stratford, Last Night. The work of relaying Hie railway une between. Stratford 'and Huiroa ,with heavier rails has commenced. When this is completed it will materially expedite the carrying of goods and permit of heavier trains being run. The first lambs of the season have made their appearance. The first of a series of "socials" under the auspices of the local Foresters' Lodge will be held on Monday. The six-year-old son of Mr. J. MJeCluggafee, of Whangamomona, had the misfortune to severely cut his foot recently, necessitating medical attention and the insertion of several stitches. The local school committee are pleased at the prompt reply from the Education Department for a gvant for the extension of the school. As a rule applications of this nature involve considerable "explanations" and consequent waste of time before tJhe grant materialises. There was a large attendance at the •Hospital Ball last night, and the function passed off most successfully. The ceremony of unfurling the flagpresented to the local school by Stratford -on - Avon was held yesterday. Speeches were made by tile Mayor, Mr. J. B, Hine, M.P., and Lieutenant-Colonel Malone. At Stratford 'to-day Mr. O'Connor, of Tutatawa. was married to Miss Brickell, of Tutatawa, and Mr. Lehmann, of Puniwhakau, to Miss G*ken, of Puniwhakau.
