FIGHTING IN NICARAGUA.
GUNBOAT SINKS A REVOLUTIONARY VESSEL. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright New York, May 24. The Nicaraguan gun boat Venus sank the revolutionary vessel Omottope, and 100 rebels were drowned. Despite the warnings of the United States Government, fighting at Bluefields is probable, and the British cruiser Scylla has sailed for that place. A FIERCE ATTACK. BATTLE IN PROGRESS. Received May -25, 10 p.m. London, May zo. The Nicaraguan forces, under General Lara, fiercely attacked the provisional Government army under General Tarada, who were entrenched behind Bluefields. The cruiser Venus, landing five hundred troops northwards of Bluefields, reinforced General Lara.
