CHARGE OF MURDER.

WELLINGTON BAILIFF FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. STRONG RECOMMENDATION TO MERCY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the case against John Corkill, the bailiff charged with the murder of Christopher Denis Smith in Pipitea street on March 4, the jury returned a verdict of manslaughter, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the grounds of the age of accused, his frailty, and great provocation. The jury were of opinion that Corkill really thought his life was in danger, although this idea was unjustifiable. His Honor said he would pass sentence on Saturday.
