SHEARERS' DISPUTE
AN AWARD MADE. j By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, May 18. ,The hearing of the shearers' dispute was continued. The Canterbury award was taken as a basis for argument, the clauses being taken seriatim on the understanding that the claims of employers or employees would "be given ton* sideration .in matters not dealt with by the award. It was agreed tfiftfc employers should have full control of shearing operations, also clauses guarding against shearers being absent without leave, and bringing intoxicants into sheds, general provisions for shearing and settlement of disputes were agreed to. It was decided to adopt clauses from the Wellington industrial districts award regarding rations, and Chinese cooks were allowed. The questioa of dagging sheep is to be sent to the Conciliation Court, also that of loss of time through stoppage of machines. The employers practically agree to supply all tools and oil at cost price. The question of a shearer contracting to shear sheep other than those he intends to shear himself was referred to the Court. Discrimination clauses against non-un-ionists were agreed to. The terms of the award as to rates of pay were It eld in abeyance.
