HILLY WELLINGTON

LANDSLIDE THREATENS A fIOTBL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, May 18. The recent wet weather has had a bad effect on the high cliff overlooking Lambton Quay, immediately behind Barrett's Hotel. Ylesterday serious land slides occurred on the top of the cliff, and the Queen's Private Hotel, a big concrete buildings, stands a good chance of making a hasty voyage to Lamibton Giiay. During the afternoon it was discovered that the retaining wall was cracked. Strenuous efforts were made to save the wall from falling, but during the night a further slip carried away an old disused brick building at. the jiack with a tremendous clatter. If no further slips take- placp the damage will not be extensive.
