THE VANCOUVER MAIL.
PROPOSED EXTENSION OPPOSED, j By Cable—Press Association —Copyright.! Sydney, May 13. | A deputation of the Chamlber of Commerce waited on the Postmaster-General and aired a number of grievances. They urged that the proposal to extend the Vancouver service to Auckland would ■be a serious matter to those sending correspondence, the first necessity of mail transit being speed. The Postmaster-General reiterated his desire to encourage the development ot trade, and said that with larger and speedier vessels the time occupied would not be greater tihan at present. Another complaint was the delay in sorting mails from New Zealand, and a promise was given that this would be remedied. i ' | The Postmaster-General has received a cable from Canada completing arrangements for the extension of the Vancouver service under existing conditions for another year from the expiration of the present contract in August.
