ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ACCIDENT ABOARD A STEAMER. .By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. A man named Donald Geddes was the victim of a serious accident at Port Chalmers to-day. While engaged in loading the s.s. Fifeshire he fell down the hatchway, a distance of 30 feet. When picked up he was unconscious, and examination showed that his injuries consisted of a broken thigh, two broken ribs, an injury to the left arm and head, and a serious injury to tne jaw. He is in a serious condition. Geddes is a married man with four children. NAPIER BREAKWATER FATALITY. Napier, Last Night. An inquest touching the drowning of George Henry Duncan, aged 41 years, insurance agent, who was swept off the jlireakwater wharf during a storm on April 25, was concluded to-day. Mr. H. W. Bratont, Coroner, returned a verdict of accidental drowning, and said everything was done which could be done under the circumstances to save Duncan's life. No doubt the question of protection of the 1 public in future at such times would be fully considered by the Harbor Board.
