WANGANUI ARSON CASES

JURY DISAGREE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The charges of arson arising out of the fire in the Rutland Hotel buildings, Wangamii, against Joseph Paul Davis and Martin Hains, were further investigated in the Supreme Court to-day. Accused are jointly charged on separate counts with conspiracy and attempt to defraud two insurance companies of £IOOO, while Davis is indicted on two i separate counts with procuring Hains to set fire to the buildings, and with aiding Hains to escape, knowing he had set fire to the building. The heaving of the evidence lasted all day. The jury retired at 0 p.m. and returned after four hours' deliberation with an intimation that there was no possibility of agreement. A new trial will probably commence on Monday.
