According to the police report, a disgraceful scene occurred at Surrey flillg (a suburb of Sydney) kite on Saturday night. Twenty-five German sailors marched along the street, led l>y three men, i.je with a half-muffled drum and another; with a concertina. A third was dressed as a woman, whilst the remainder were fantastically draped with crepe. They commenced to play lively airs. The crowd quickly sized up the grotesque proceedings as an insult to the dead King. A melee ensued, and was conducted witn ferocity. Bottles were used an clubs, and stones thrown. Nearly every sailor was more or lei* injured The "musical" instruments were battered to ipieces. The police rescued them with difficulty. The one who was dressed as 3. woman was fined for drunkenness.
