At no time' in the history of Australasia has there been such an enormous amount of tonnage under construction for the shipping trade as at present. There are orders placed or about to be placed by dill'erent companies engaged in the Australasian shipping trade for fifty steamships aggregating 301,000 tons. STATE COAL MONOPOLY. Melbourne, May 6. It is understood that the State Minister has decided not to establish a State conl monopoly at the Powiett River field.
