A QUESTION OF EXPENSES

DISCUSSED AT (STRATFORD. At the Stratford Hospital Board meeting on Wednesday, Mr. Porritt stated that he would not accept the 7s 6d voted for his expenses at the last meeting ■until he had had a ruling lon the question from the Auditor-General. He would like a case stated for the AuditorGeneral's opinion. It was by virture of his country property that he .was on the Board and as a representative of the county, not of the /borough. Mr. Marfel'l said he would like a motion submitted to see if the town members could not be 'allowed something for expenses.

Mr. Maxwell: The matter is in our own hands. if people are so finely drawn that they 'won't take expenses Mr. Ward: As a borough representative I would not like that question asked: It all hinges on the new Act. A member is only entitled to a refund of the actual amount he spends. Mr. Maxwell: Mr. Ward has all the ■public virtues in the community and must stand up. Mr. Maxwell rait on to say that he thought Mr. Cameron was entitled to his expense*. His business lay away from town. The "chairman said all members, whether town or country, were entitled to actual expenses. The Act did not differentiate. Mr. Porritt's case is to lie stated to the Auditor-General. A motion that the whole question be enquired into was lost. Mr. Maxwell moved that Mr. Cameron get T« Od per day. Mr. Cameron said his expenses at last meeting were only 2=, and not worth considering. It was the wording of the Act he objected to. A imotion, proposed by Mr. Marfell. that' the auditor be asked if Stratford members are entitled to expenses lapsed. Mr. Meredith is to be allowed las per day for expenses as representative of the Wlrangamomona County Council.
