NORTH TARANAKI HUNT
The second meet of the season took place yesterday at Messrs. Summer and Walford's, Oakura, when those present enjoyed a few excellent mns. The day was all that could 'be desired for hunting, a slight rain the night before making the scent keen, so that when a bunny was roused from cover lie got an exceptionally warm time from the twelve rarples of hounds, who were working to perfection. The first run was probably the best of the day, (being a. very fast one, and covered a couple of miles of excellent country, the jumps being of ditch and bank, gorse and nicely sparred wire fences. The horses shaped very well for so early in the season, there being few mistakes made. This speaks well for the future of the Hunt. Early in the afternoon a telegram was received announcing the death of the President of the Hunt (Mr. Stuart McG-uinness). The sad news was received with much 1 egret by the members present, who thereupon decided to adjourn the hunt. Messrs. Summer and Walford very kindly entertained r those present to afternoon tea, which was much appreciated.
To show that the Hunt is growing in •popularity, it may be stated that there were no less than twenty-four new members ■proposed and accepted at the last meeting of the committee. It was decided to hold a bye-meet at the fcenT.vte, Bell Block, on' Thursday. 19th inst. The meet next Thursday will be held at Mrs. R. Street's. Bell Block, which is sufficient guarantee that a good day's sport will be enjoyed.
