WAITARA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Waitara Borough Council met onj Wednesday evening, when there were j present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. F. Jenkins) and Crs. Klenner, Black, Rattenbury and Tate. Cr. Birdling lorwarded an apology for his absence. MAYORAL INSTALLATION. Mr. Penkins having made the usual formal declaration, took his seat as Mayor for the third term, and was congratulated by Crs. Tate, Klenner, Rattenbury and Black, who spoke in appreciation of the manner in which he had filled the Mayoral chair. Mr. Jenkins, in his response, said he had always found the councillors a good lot of workers, and said it was a pleasure to work with such a team. THE £20,000 LOAN. The Superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Board wrote stating that the application by the borough for a £20,000 loan for waterworks, etc., Had been provisional!}' approved. THE WATERWORKS. The Wanganui Spiral Pipe Company wrote in reference to the progress of the waterworks scheme. Discussion followed upon the details oi tlie reticulation, and it transpired that a charge of £2 would be made upon each houseowner desiring to connect with the main, this sum paying for the work between the main and the street boundary. A BAxNjJ ROTUNDA.

A deputation from the Municipal Brass Band waited on the Council and aiked that one of the municipal reserves be set apart for the erection of a band rctunda. Mr. T. B. McOonneil, the bandmaster, said that the deputation wasn't asking for money. The .uand reckoned they could get the money for the erection of the rotunda, and would do a lot of the work by organising working bees. He 'pointed out that tne land was anxious to give more frequent concerts in the open, but under existing circumstances tlie concerts gave hardly the fullest satisfaction either to the band or to the public. The Council, after some discussion, agreed to hand over the section near the old institute for the purpose, upon the motion of the Mayor and Cr. Tate. Mr. McConnell, in thanking the Council, said the band intended making the site a beauty spot, and expressed the opinion that there was hardly a better site available. THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT. The Mayor brought up the matter ot the forthcoming visit of His Excellency the Governor to Waitara. The proposal was to present him with an illuminated address and to parade the Mounted Rifles, Waitara Rifles, the Municipal Band, School Cadets and school children upon the occasion, and to invite members of local bodies to be present.

GENERAL. Th'e matter of forming tootpaths in Brown street, as requested by residents, was referred to the Works Committee. Cr. Rattenbury gave notice to move at next meeting that the Council adopt the Motor-Car Regulation Act. It was decided to fix the Mayor's honorarium at £25. Accounts totalling £3030 5s 7d (including £2957 3s 3d on the waterworks) vcre passed for payment.
