By Telegraph --Press Associat.i<'-\ Palmerston North, Last Nii> Powelka, who was remanded :.'>m Wellington to Palmerston to-day, will be brought up on Thursday to Palmerston, and 011 Friday a series of trials will begin with charges for offences alleged to have been committed prior to his first, escape from the Palmerston lockup. This series consists of the following charges: Breaking and entering Dixon'a residence at Terrace End; breaking and entering Miss McKay's residence and stealing therefrom; arson at Miss McKay's residence; iheft of a bicycle; anil escaping from Palmerston lookup. All the charges will be heard before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., and if disposed of in one day the second series of fresh alleged offences will be entered upon on Saturday and Monday. The charges to be then dealt with are in connection with the High School fire, Millar and Oioryi s lire, in-caking and entering I'crry's at Longburn. theft from Mrs. Earhuuls', breaking and entering Ashhurst railway station, breaking and entering theiknawatu Meat Company's premises at Longburn, also another Longburn breaking and entering case, with alleged theft of an overcoat, etc. , W hen Powelka comes here he will ho charged with the murder of the lat-0 Sergeant Maguire. This charge will bo heard about lith May. Mr. C. A. Loughnnn will prosecute on behalf of the Crown and Mr. GifTord Moore defends. Detectives Cassells and Siddells have hid the writing-up of the' cases. Nuh-liispcctor O'Donovan is in charge of the police operations.

There will he from thirty to fortv witnesses.
