PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, April 13, there being present: Messrs. Young (chairman)., Deegan, Harvey, Jones, Willcox. Tenders were received for metalling on Upper bewail road as 1 follows: —C. Corbett 4s per yard, A. Magon 3s lid, D. Rothery 3s od. The lowest tender was accepted. The foreman reported on the drains into Rua Bishop's section on Waiteika road and the best means of dealing with the water complained of. It was ■decided to have the drains' and culverts done as recommended, Rua to keep the drain open through his section.
The foreman and Mr. Willcox reported on the drain on Gregory road near the Masonic Hall—Resolved that the Board will take action when the sections are fenced off.
The Board instructed the foreman to lay off work on the Upper Funiho road to absorb the 'balance of the joint loan money. The Board holds £55 and the Werekino Road Board also has some £ls or £2O due to the loan account.
TJie foreman reported against opening a pit on Mr. Lysaght's. A proposition that the foreman should canvass the settlers on the Kahui Toad to see if they would contribute half cost of some repairs, was defeated in favor of leaving the matter to the settlers to attend to.
Mr. T. S. Alexander again interviewed the Board for refund of lialf special rates on Kina road. The Board will see what caoi he done for him when striking next rate.
Mrs. Barrett wrote asking for some repairs to Parihaka and Harvey roads. —Foreman to report to next meeting. The clerk was instructed to 'make up the amount of rates due to Werekino Koad Board, and to ask same for balance of loan money. Mr. Cross as'ked the Board to sell 'him twenty 12-inch pipes.—Agreed to do so at 4s 6d each.
The foreman was empowered to let drain cleaning by contract to settlers interested, where the work is really necessary.
An application for permission for tho Domain Board to meet in the Road Board office was granted, subject bo the clerk's convenience.
May 3 was fixed for the general election. The Guarantee Board sent new forms of application for loans. The Valuation Department sent an account for £2 2s for some revaluations which liad been asked for. The Department to 'be informed that as the information came three months too late to be of any use the account be not paid. Accounts amounting to £341 were passed for payment. The bank account showed a credit of £3OO.
