PICNIC AT SENTRY HILL

The third annual picnic of Lepperton residents was lieid on Thursday last, in good weather, in Mr. F. 11. Sampson's grounds. Messrs. Okey and Jennings, M.P.'s, were judges, the handicappers \being Messrs. L. Jennins, R. Tate, and A. Kibby. Messrs. Lepper and N. Sampson were joint secretaries, and Mr. W. A. Brown splendidly controlled the children's sports. Subsequently a bright "social" was held in the Lepperton Hall. Results of sports:—

T ---' TT «ndicap, 100 yards.—F. Sampson 1, W. Cartwright "2, A. Cartwright 3. A splendid finish. Open Cycle Handicap, two miles.—J. Adlam 1, A. Feakins 2. Won comfortably.

■Kicking a Football—N. Sampson 1, E. Hellier 2. Eleven entries. Potato Eace.—V! Tate L This event caused n great deal of excitement.

BSO Yards Handicap (o,pen). —M. Julian 1, Alexander 2, R. Allen 3. On entering the straight Julian put in a great run and won a well-judged race by about four yards. Local Cycle Handicap, one mile.—A. Feakins 1. Pincent 2. Won all the way.

Tug-of-War, Committee v. Maoris. — After a very great struggle the weighty Maoris proved themselves to be too good for their opponents. Stepping a Chain.—M. Julian and W. Nicoll, dead heat. Tn this event there were thirtv-two entries.

IO'O Yt(ls Handicap (open). —V. C. Tate 1. Stanley 2, W. Olsen 3. A good race. Won bv inches only. Tilting at Ring (horses). —L. Jennins 1. Eleven entries.

Horse Leaping Competition. Mr. P. Sole's Black Jack 1, Mr. W. H. Bolton's Mars 2.

Pace Race.—Mr. Putt's bav horse, ridden by B. Lumsden, 1; Mr. F. Sampson's Malioetahi 2. Lumsden took the lead at the trot, and won comfortably. Eight entries.

Rescue Race.—P. Sole 1, F. Brown t, W. Tewson 3. Twelve entries.

220 Yards Local Handicap.—A. Cartwright 1. W. Olsen 2. P. Haskell 3. Won comfortably. Six entries. Catching Greasy Pig, P. Haskell. Twelve entries.

440 Yards (open).—P. Jones 1, P. Tate 2, Alexander 3. This was a very good race, Jones just rearing Tate on the tape. Eleven starters. Committee Race—W. Cartwright 1, F. Sampson 2. 3. Fifteen starters.

Younsr Ladies' Race. Mis« Nellie Cartwright 1, Mi«s Evelyn Crofski 2.

Married Ladies' Race.—Mrs. T. Giddy 1, Mrs. J. Burgess 2. Three-leeged Race —Messrs. V. and R. Tate 1, Messrs. R. Wells and L. Old 2.
