A NEW PUBLICATION

" SYKES'S JOURNAL. I* has been left to Mr. A. E. Sykea, the enterprising proprietor and manufacturer of the far-famed Sykes's cattle remedies, to publish the first periodical in Taranaki dealing wholly with the prevention and cure of disease in Btock. The first copy of the new publication is before us, and from a cursory glance at the contents we feel quite safe in promising " Sykes's Journal for Dairymen, Farmers and Stockowners" a very hearty welcome upon every farm, and : iby every stoekowner and breeder. The 1 "Journal" has a very attractive exterior, the front page capitally designed and lithographed in dark red on .'a neutral ground. A feature has been made of the publication of tables of value, such as milk record sheets, milk value tables, herd register, seed sowing table, and so on. The milk record sheets are well compiled, and if properly entered up should prove of great -assistance to the dairyman. There is a separate sheet for each month in the year, and columns are headed for the number or name of the cows, pounds of milk, percentage of butter-fat, pounds of butter estimated to be produced, price per pound, gross value, amount received, and the test of the skim milk. Various other ruled pages 1 are set out a» a guide to the farmer's book-keeping, for it is recognised now among most of the up-to-date dairymen and agriculturalists that a proper system of accounts ought to be kept on every farm. If "Svkes'*' Journal," from the fact of its providing (farmers with the proper form in which to enter up their doings and earnings, can encourage the custom, it will achieve a great deal foT the welfare of the man on the land One of these pages is headed "Memo, of stock purchased." and another "Memo, of stock sold," with columns for the entry of the name of the seller or buyer, particulars, and iprice. The Herd Register Is another useful feature. Diagrams are reproduced showing the correct method of irrigating animals for the prevention and cure of abortion. Incontrovertible evidence is adduced, too, that the finest antiseptic is Svkes'i' Animal Abortion Cure. Other pages tell us vrhat nearly every farmer in Taranaki knows now — the value of Svkes's Drench and "Animol" ointment for flows' teats, a complete testation table, and s« ei. The "Journal" is vm-y well arrawre4 and printed, is from the pre«s of Meetr* .T. Hooker nnd Co., of New PlvmoVk.
