STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Cur Resident Correspondent-.) SUMli'iil'li. April !).
ill'. \Y. A. Hewitt, wiio has been a»v<ty for a trip to llawke's Bay, on his return to Stratford found that his house had been entered, the intruder having gained an entrance through the bathroom window. There were footmarks on the lloor, and the luitt of a cigarette showed-that the uninvited visitor was a smoker. There we<e no indications that anything had been disturbed, but until the return of Mrs. Hewitt, who is awnv on a holiday, Mr. Hewitt is unable to say if anything has been taken. At a committee meeting of the A. and P. Association to-day a resolution was passed requesting the Taranaki Education Board to establish wool-classing •classes in Stratford. 1 hear that a number of fanners have promised their support, and that it is possible that classes could be arranged in Toko, and other centres.
At the Magistrate's Court on Friday five defendants were lined 10s each and costs for breaches of the Noxious Weeds Act.
The Stratford police received information last night that Mr. F. Close's -house at Toko had been entered and a suit and hat stolen. Two men have been arrested, one of whom was wearing the stolen suit beneath his ordinary clothes. The men will appear before the Court on Monday.
There must have been many people who were sorrv to hear of the death of Mr. Frank Trask, M.L.C. He was one of those genuine, kind-hearted, generous men who make so many friends. Suc-j cess in the world did not alter liim a scrap, and he was always just the same "'hail fellow, well met" to the end. For years Vnl and Frank Trask were almost synonymous, and Sleepy Hollow was proud of Frank Trask, as he was universally called. For a number of years he was Mayor; in fact, everybody seemed to regard it aa a matter of course that Trask should be Mayor. And from n social standpoint he carried out his duties well. Manv a party of Parliamentarians, many a football and cricket team, and visitors innumerable have experienced his hospitality at Gunnerberg House. Strangely enough, his end was similar to that of his great friend, the late Hon. R. J. Seddon.
