A lire occurred at .">..">o a.m. to-day in business premises in High street, nc4| the corner of Casiiel street, consistftig of three stories and a basement.

Messrs' Wallace and Co., chemists, occupied tin' ground Hour and the basement, and the .second iloor was occupied as consulting rooms by Drs. O'Brien and Duncan. Dr. Xewell, dentist, and. the other tenants were Mr Michael, oculist, Mr Wright, music teacher. The (ire originated in a small room under the staircase on the first Iloor, used for storing bicycles, coal and oods and ends.

It was severely damaged by fire.

The contents of the basement were considerably damaged by water, and the remainder of the building was much damaged by heat and smoke. The premises are owned by .Mrs. W. Darby, and are insured for .1',1.500 in the United and i'looo in the Royal Exchange Office. j Messrs \\ allace and Co.s stock is' insured as follows: t'-.)00 in the North Queensland. £1!HI0 in the Royal Exchange, C HHIO in the London and Liverpool and (ilobe, £IOOO in the New Zealand Co., and Oj.IO in the Victoria Office.

Mr. Xewell is insured for £3O in the State Office. Dr. O'Brien for £SO in t'lia Alliance Office, and Mr Wright for C2.")0 in the State Office.
