The Commissioner of Customs has prosecuted the Ellis Kislingbury Company for importing per Omrah 33cwt of Victorian butter containing 18.2 per cent, of water.

Defendants pleaded that the Uwveniment fpj'tifieate did not mention an excess of water. They regarded the certificates as practically a Government guarantee. The Magistrate, in imposing a fine of 40s. people who inspected the

butter before shipment ought to be before me!''
