WHITELEY SUNDAY SCHOOL

ANNIVERSARY SERVICES.

The tea and public meeting in connection with the anniversary of the Whiteley Sunday School were held last night. There wts also a good attendance at the J t.'tcr-;meiiting, when the Rev. J. G. Chapman presided .

The report submitted by Mr C. Carter, the superintendent, was very satisfactory. There were 175 names on the roll of the school, as against 172 last year, snd the school started the ineom ing y«ar with a credit balance of £2O, whereas' two years ago there was a aebt of i'l). There were twenty-two teachers and officers, and the interest in the work was well sustained, the teachers beinj most faithful in their attendance and attention to the claims of the schoil. During the year there was fomed a young men's Bible class; under the superintendency of the Rev. Mr. Clwpman, and there was a strong Bible class for young ladies, conducted by Miss Hodder. Instead of the ordinary pimic the children had been given an amiversary tea, principally because of tie multiplicity of picnics just when tie school treat should have been held, luring the year a change had been nade in the method of testing the diildren's knowledge of the Scripture pssons, and now quarterly written examinations were held.

In the absence of Mrs Douglas, Mr Carter also reported on the work of the infant school, the attendance at which was one of the most eiicouragrng features of the Sunday School work. The parents were under a deep obligation to Mrs Douglas, 'Miss Sadler and the teaching staff' for their most conscientious attention to the infant department.

During the evening prizes were presented to every child in the infant department. Hymns were sung during the evening, and one led by a little mite, backed by a full chorus, was a fc.ituip. whilst Mrs White sang the solo. "A bind of little children,"' very effectively. The Rev. F. P. Kellow and the chairman gave «hort addresses, and votes of 'hanks' to all workers were accorded on the motion of Mr Gibson.
