THE STANDARD OIL BORE. The damage done to the Standard Oil Company's buildings on the Carrington road by' the late gale has been practically repaired. The derrick, which was built of iron, was blown over, and was so badly bent, broken and twisted mat the company decided to build a new derrick of wood, thus effecting a cmbiddable saving of time. Timber for tlie new derrick was M-nt out to the site on Saturday, and the work of building was commenced on Monday by the company's own staff. The new derrick will be erected and ready for work to-morrow, the time occupied in this rebuilding being vnus only five days, which is a very good performance.
Fortunately the serious damage -was confined! to the derrick, and the engines, dynamos, boiler and other machinery escaped. The sheds, of course, were completely wrecked, that over the drawworks being smashed .beyond repair, so that it will have to be replaced by an entirely new wood and iron structure.
The indications at the bore are very satisfactory, and when work is resumed it is expected that early developments will prove very interesting. The excavation for the underground tank is almost finished, and the gravel and cement are now being carted. The concreting will be commenced as soon as' the .repairs necessitated by the gale have been effected.
