STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(l'rora Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, March 5, At the quarterly meeting of the btratiord licensing Committee yesterday transfers were granted from 8 Hooper to R. J. Paul for the license of the Mount Egmont Hotel, and from T. Lawless to F. Rhodes for the Stratford Hotel. Exception was taken to the plans submitted for the Tariki Hotel, on the ground that sufficient detail was not given, but eventually an extension •of 'leave to carry on in the present cmiporarv premises was granted, as the owner was endeavoring to secure a more central site. Reference was made at the meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board to tlie fact tlmt during; last month, with one exception. .all the cases admitted to the hospital were from the Ohura Road settlements or i-ailway works. Some time airo application was made to the Government for a special grant on account 01 the expense incurred, but the Minister held that as the town and district was benefiting bv the construction of the railway it should be prepared to meet any additional expenditure. Consequent on Easter falling early this vear the annual srenenal meeting of the Tarannki Rusby Union will probably be held about the 18th instant. There lias been a good demand for Eown properties recently, and sections which a few years ago "went a-begging" are now bringing good prices. This is a healthy' sign of the progress of the town.
