Despite heavy rain, there was a long ! cortege at the funeral of the hue Bishop Lenihan to-day. The Mayor, and | city councillors, and representatives of almost everv public body, as well as ot leading business institutions, were piv- | sent; fn addition to many visiting j priests and prominent members of the Jaity. The cortege was over a mile long, and included the Garrison Band. On arrival at the Cathedral, the coffin jvas placed in front of the Sanctuary, and a short service held, the Cathedral ■Being packed to its utmost capacity. The body will lie in state at the Cathedral until midnight to-night. Hie coffin will then be closed down, and will be guarded during the night by i members of the Roman Catholic socie- , ties. ! The burial will tali" place in t'ie j Cathedral to-morro\v morning, after 1 lie | Requiem Mass, which commences at 10 I o'clock. Masses will commence at six o'clock to-morrow, and i will be celebrated from then till 7.3 M. The solemn Requiem Mass will follow, the celebrant .beincr "Bishop Grimes, with Father Brodie as deacon, and Father Darby filth-deacon. Both Fathers Brodie and Darby were ordained bv the late Bishop Lenihan. 4v r 'ltliishop Redwood, of V. ■will preside.' Jlie assistant priest- will be the Rev. Father Mahoney. who was the first born New Zealander to enier the ranks of the priesthood. The aspirants at the throne will be Mon-si-rnoy Gillan. Dean Haskett and De.ui I>htheart. The Rev. Father Holbrook will be the master of ceremonies. AreV l,!sTinp Redwood will speak briellv. and {he body of the late bishop will then be interred.
