COLLIDED WITH A TRAIN.
A LUCKY ESCAPE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston X., February 2\ The train from Paekakariki collided with a covered-in van at the West Street crossing this morning. The vanwas occupied by an Assyrian named Josephs and his wife and two children. The occupants were thrown in all directions by the force of the collision. Josephs' wife and children escaped tra« hurt, but Josephs himself sustained a, compound fracture of the ankle. Tha horse was' destroyed by the police Immediately after the accident. The trap was demolished.
Accounts differ as to the cause of the accident. Some people state that the conveyance was driven on to the line in frout of the train; others ascribe the accident to the restlessness of the horse.
