POSTAL AND TELEGRAPHIC
UP-TO-DATK COMMONWEALTIT SCHEME.
A WIRELESS INSTALLATION.
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrig'it Melbourne, February 18.
Sir .lohn Quick, Postmaster-General, speaking at Bendigo, outlined a comjprehensive scheme of postal organisation and development. The central and State administration is to be strengthened, and uniform rates are to be imposed throughout the Commonwealth, including penny postage, in each State on the adoption of the financial agreement, and penny postage generally when business develops sufficiently. During the next three years it is proposed to spend £2,387,000 on telephonic and telegraphic extensions and reconstruction.
High-power wireless stations are to be established at Sydney and Fremantle, and the system is gradually to be extended to other parts of the Commonwealth and Papua, as experience justifies.
Sir John Quick added that the Government's programme included the "All Red" Pacific and Atlantic cable extension, and as an additional link it hoped to maintain an "All Red" mail service via the Vancouver route.
