The shooting in connection with the Taranaki Rides' section competition eventuated yesterday afternoon, when tlie attendance ot members of the corps was anything but encouraging to the section leaders and not indicative ot overpowering interest. There should have 'been live men representing each sec-Lion, but tht' heist muster was fo'ir in the No. 3 section, the rest making a. very poor showing. The points in the section competition are tor shootinii. attendance and punctuality yt parades, and drill. At the range yesterday afternoon the No. 3 section headed the shooting, scoring 253 points, the individual scores being: Corporal Armitage 75, Private Marett GO, Private Okcy 62, Private White GO. No. 2 section' was next with 222. Ranges were 900 yds and 1000 yds.

VISIT OF H.M.S. PEGASUS.

The headquarters' companies have combined for the entertainment of the men of H.M.S. Pegasus next week. A triangular match—Pegasus, Rides and Gunrds—will be fired on Monday, and in the evening the visitors will he en-

tertained at a smoke concert in the Drill Hall, ■'■'•'" < THE GUARDS' CHAMPIONSHIP, The Guards were well represented en the range yesterday afternoon, when

the championship belt was shot for. Private Grover was successful in this competition. The ranges were 900 and 1666" yards, and some very creditable scores were put up. Corporal J. W. Bruce «o far leads in the unfinished match for the gold medal presented by Lieut. Messenger. Details of scores will appear later.
