At the Supreme Court the grand jniy recommended, in view of the frequency of assaults on girls of tender years, that the lash .should be used with .some degree of severity. At the Supreme Court Joseph Williams, who was convicted yesterday of assault with intent, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment with hard labor. Thos. Veitch, who was convicted of theft, Avas sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Chas. Burney was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for forgery, and six months' for having escaped from custody. WELLINGTON SESS[OXS. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Vour't to-day. the jury disagreed in the case of John Henry lrcson, charged with breaking, entering, and theft at Oreytown. A new trial was ordered, accused meanwhile being admitted to bail. The hearing was commenced of tie 1 arson charge against Eherhardt Ferdinaiui Pionner, but was not concluded.
