STRATFORD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
To the Editor. 1 Sir, —In your of the 20th inst.. you comment on an interview between the .Minister of Education mid myseif on the question of stniliii<r the (Stratford school. \ou do not. however, quite clearly state tlie position as put to the Minister. On the averag;. attendance of this school was entitled to an extra assistant teacher, and the Board was requested by the committee to call tor applications, to close in December. Tin; Board declined, inform hi;; the eommiuce that o.ily an extra pupil teacher would be allowed by Ihe Department. The pupil teachers we had and wluc-e term of apprenticeship Unci been completed now ranked assistants, ami were appointed to other schools. Oar position is now that we start the year with practically a reduced si aIV «,f teachers aad three or four raw apni\>atiees, when we should have an increa- '.l stall' of teacher* to cop? with the increased attendance. If the 1!HIS Act over-rides the l'.iOo Act. then the Bepartment >U!.;i].l at one,, ;s-ue iii ■ regulatiwns and put the HIIIS Act in force, it seems that Parliament striv.'Sle.s and wears itself out talking cd,;cati'on. and then allows a little chui-e to creep in while it sleeps, reading; 'This Act shall run coine into font, until the ventilations are gazetted." Therefore the Executive has the say after all. whether the Act shall come into force «-.r not. and whether it is tor pra-el ical pu:'liO'ses or not. —1 am. etc.. C. D. sor.K. Chairman Stratford D.11.X. Committee.
