At a representative .session of the .Otago and Southland District Methodist Synod to-day the church properties' report showed ffie total value of the church property in tho Otago district to be £40,303, being an increase of £1,809 on the year, whereas the total liability was £(i!)!):i. A ballot for a district representative to the conference resulted in the elccFion of the Rev. T. J. Wallis, with Rev. W. Crceuslade as sulwtihue representative. A motion in favor of a separate conference for New Zealand was carried by 27 to 7. Ohristchureh, Last Night. The Canterbury Methodist Synod tonight, by. 41 votes to 14, agreed to a motion in favor of an independent conference and of reparation from Australia.

HETKENCIIMENT AT MOUAIAIIAKI. Wanganui, Wednesday. Half the staff at the Moumnhaki'Experimental Farm were paid off yesterday, leaving only a few men to carry on this year's experiments, which have been already started and on which the money spent bids fair to lie thrown awev. There is considerable feeling on the coast over this retrenchment, which is generally considered a very short-sight-ed proceeding. ARBITRATION JUDGMENTS. AVellington, Wednesday. The Arbitration Court gave judgment in two appeals from magistrals' deeisions. In the first case an appeal if'the Cooks' and Stewards' Urnon against the Union Steam Ship Company in reference to the payment of overtime to a niessroom steward was upheld. The steward had worked on a vessel arriving in a roadsto.'d port on a Sunday or a holiday, and bad jci|'", again the same day. Tn ,l<e second case, the Tailors' Union v ICirkcaldie and Stains, the question was whether the linn bad distributed certain wori; on the "team system." The magistrate held that it had not. and the Ar bitration Court held that the niatkr was one of fact and bis decision wn find. The Union's appeal was there fore dismissed.
