THE TRAIN SERVICE
THE CHICAGO OF N,Z. , Palmerston- N., Monday, inor to the revision of the railway time-table there were forty-six trains running in and out of P&imerston daily. The alteration of the service, which comes into effect next month, accounts for an additional eight, making a total of 54.

• A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Saturday inight, wlien there were present—His Worship the Mayor [presiding), Councilors Fawcctt, Gibbs, Tarplee and G. Yioung. The business of the meeting was the consideration of telegrams received from the • Mayor of New Plymouth and Mr. J. B. Hine, M.F., re alteration of railway timetable.
After due consideration, the Mayor ni'oved, and Councillor Tarplee seconded, "That the lnglewood Borough Council protests against the proposal to delay the arrival of the express train from Wellington to New Plymouth any later than at present, on the ground's that not only will it cause a great inconvenience to the travelling public, but will proportionately delay the steamer service between the New' Plymouth and Onelmnga, as well as tending to isolate this end of the district from the rest of the dominion. The delay would also prevent the business community from receiving their correspondence that night t'o enable them to send replies by the following morning's mail train."—Carried.—lnglewood Record.
