TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL
The annual meeting of the 'J'aruiiaki County Council was' held ycslerdav. Present: Councillors J. Brown", R. Stci'. ens, J. R. Hill, G. V, Tate, C. Carter, and I M. llopson. | Upon the motions of Crs. Stevens mil Tate, Cr. Brown was re-elected chairman.—Complimentary remarks were made concerning the manner in which the chairman had diseltarged the duties pertaining to his office, and Mr. Brown suitably acknowledged them. The following resolution was passed upon the motion of Crs. Carter ami Stevens:—This Council desires to place on record its appreciation of the services of the county clerk, Mr. R. Ellis, in his capacity of secretary and treasurer to the Council; his'untiring devotion to duty as well as his extensive knowledge on all matters affecting the Council's interest adds to the value of his services to tile Council." Mr. Ellis briefly acknowledged the compliment, ami staled that it bad always been his aim to do his duty. Crs. Brown, lliil and Andrews were re-appointed the Council's representatives on the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. It was decided that any two councillors, with the treasurer, sign cheques. The chairman and Cr. Carter were empowered lo sign all contracts on beha'f of the Council. The Council decided to adhere to the first Monday in the month as its regular day of meeting. It was decided to increase the wages of the toll-collector at Punilio from £2 . 2s to .C2 0g weekly. It was decided, on the rcconimenda-} tion of Foreman Huse, to place more I metal on the Main South road at its I junction with the Breakwater road.
