FURNITURE WORKERS' CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. Delegates representing the workers in the furniture trades of New Zealand met in conference to-day. Mr. G. Sullivan, Christ church, was elected chairman. It was decided to form a federation of furniture trades, the name of the federation to be the New Zealand Furniture Trades Industrial Association of Workers. The objects of the federation are to effect unity in the different furniture i trades and to further the interests of the workers engaged in the trade.
TIMBER WORKERS IN CONFERENCE Wellington, Monday. The New Zealand Timber Workers' Union commenced their conference today. Mr. J. Alsweiler, Southland, was elected president, and Mr. Tuffen, Otago, secretary. The biggest question of the moment, said the president in his opening addres6, was undoubtedly the mattei of conserving and preserving the timber resources of New Zealand. He emphasised the importance of urging the Government to do something in this direction. The conference affirmed the principle of federation of the timber workers, and agreed to recommend the sawmill unions to federate in one body.
