FIRES.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. An aerated water factory and stables' in York Street, Opawa, owned by Messrs. Ballan and Ray, were destroyed by fire last night. The fire was first noticed about 0.30, but the flames had then too strong a hold to .be easily extinguished. A telephone message was sent to the city brigade station, but, as the fire was outside the fire district and no guarantee was given the plant was not sent out. A bucket brigade prevented tlic fire spreading to adjacent bouses. Tlic plant was valued at £3OO and the building at £l5O. A motor-car valued at CIOO was also destroyed. The Yorkshire Insurance Company had £3OO on the contents, machinery, plant and vehicles. A cart and a waggon were all Hint was saved.
