ASSAULTING A BAILIFF.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Richard White was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with assaulting Buchanan Scott, a Court bailiff, when the latter went to execute a distress warrant at White's house. Scott wae explaining the nature of ]iis business to Mrs. White, when the defendant came up and, according to Scott, struck the bailiff on the head with a piece of wood and then threw him down the steps. Medical evidence showed that tlic injuries were not serious. Defendant said lie simply pushed Scott out. The Magistrate stated it was clear the Whites were preparing to quit the house with their belongings when interrupted by the. bailiff. He lined White £5, with (he option of a month's imprisonment,.and directcdth.it half the fine should go to Scott.
