FATAL BOARDING-HOUSE FIRE
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Thursday. Another fatal fire occurred early this morning, the victim being Thos. Kcr, a single man about 30 years of age. It happened at a large boarding-house, formerly known as the Occidental Hotel, which lost its license when reduction was carried nine years ago, The flames had obtained a strong hold when discovered. The proprietor of the lioiiee, Richardson, went round and roused the whole' of the inmates, and it was thought all had escaped. When the lire was got under, however, Ker's body was found on the floor of his bedroom. Deceased was apparently overcome by the smoke. He wuti well known in rowing circles and a native of Christeliureh.
The building was insured for £I2OO and the contents for £750. The upper storey was gutted:
