BREACH OF LICENSING ACT. By Telegrupn.—Press Assocralton. Aahburton, Friday. Elizabeth Madden wa9 fined £3O on a charge of keeping liquor for sale in a no-license, district. Another charge of selling liquor against the same defendant was dismissed.
A SLY GROG- CONVICTION. ■Wellington, Oct. 15 Ruile Millante, against whom there were previous convictions, was sentenced to-day to six weeks' imprisonment for sly grog selling. A STIFF FINE. Masterton, Last Night. Kate Neilson, a boardinghouse-kceper, was fined t;33 for keeping liquor for sale to-day at the S.M. Court. A charge of selling liquor in a no-license district was dismissed.
A SOLICITOR'S APPLICATION. Wellington, Last Night, The Supreme Court full 'bench sat today to hear the application re Quinn to be admitted as a solicitor. The motion was opposed by the Auckland Law Society upon the ground of alleged unfit character of applicant. The Society alleged that he had been convicted of assault in 18!).) and had given way to drink. Then further that he had during some part of his life resided in Sydney and there carried on the calling of bookmaker. Mr. Bamne, K.C., and Mr. Ostl.'r appeared in support of the motion, and Mr. Earl, for the Auckland Society, >pposed. After hearing argument judgment was reserved.
