KILLED IN A LIFT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Thomas Donovan, aged 20, whose father is in the Railway Department, was accidentally killed at George Winder's ironmongery establishment last night He was found this morning jambed in the electric goods lift. It is surmised that he pulled the cord to bring up the lift and was looking over to sec ■whether it was moving, and did not notice the balance weight, which descended on his neck. Death must have heen instantaneous. He was missed about 5.30 and the premises searched, but lie could not he found. The lift could not be got to work for gome littb time afte,- the employees knocked off, and it was supposed, onw of the wires had fused. A JOCKEY'S DEATH. Napier, Friday. At an inquest on the body of John O'Conncll, the evidence of jockeys- and eye-witnesses of the accident went to shows that deceased got tangled up in Forest's legs when lie came down at the hurdle. There was no suggestion of interference. A verdict of death from fracture of the skull, with no blame attachable to anyone, was returned.
