M.ithew Ramsay Mcltityre, aged 20, a single -man and a cabinetmaker by trade, was drowned on Sunday by the capsizing of a small launch oft' Rangitot.o. McTntyre and four others were fishing a mile off shore, and Mcltotyre slipped and fell overboard. During the efforts of the other occupants of the launch to rescue him. thetf capsized her, and all five were precipitated into the water. They clung to the launch till «hc sank, and then started to swim ashore. Maoris' put off in a boat from the shore nnJ.l rescued all the men but Melntyr ', who was unconscious and never recovered. Melntyre'was a sergeant in No. '■* Garrison Artillery, and was the best gun man in the company.
