BURNT TO DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Thus. Painton, 72 years of age, employed by Henry Nunweek, a fruit-grow-er, at Pupanui, was burnt to death last night. It appears deceased lived in a ten in Nunweek's orchard. He was last seen alive at 10.30 on Saturday night, when he had a bottle of whisky in his possession, but was perfectly ifober. About 0.30 this morning it wa3 discovered that tlio tent was destroyed, and Paiulon's charred remains wcro found among the debris. It is supposed that the lire was caused by a candle igniting the bedclothes. It is believed that deceased's wile and family reside in Duuedin.
