ST. HELEN'S HOSPITAL.
A SPLENDID RECORD. 3y Telegrnpn.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Four years ago yesterday the late Mr. Seddon opened St. Helen's Hospital, and this institution has a splendid record of 745 cases, with only one death, and that in a case that did not give the staff a fair chance Miss Holford, the matron, chatting to a reporter this morning, said 78 others had been back to St. Helen's a second time and nine a thirl time. "In every way the results are satisfactory. This year," added Miss Holford, "the health of the nurses nas been very good and all who were presented for examination passed with credit. We have turned out twenty-six nurses altogether, and now pass through eight a year. It may be mentioned that 745 cases does not show the number if births. We have given up counting twins," remarked" Miss Holford, "and now are waiting for triplets." Tho tc cord of births for one day is seven, with two sets of twins. This happened last February. In outdoor work, the tally to date is ninety cases, seven a second time." The matron has had to refuse a number of applications for admission owing to the want of accommodation, but the difficulty is now overcome, ior the management has acquired a sevenroomed cottage adjoining, and took possession to-day. This will give accommodation for eight more patients.
