At a special meeting of the Stratford Hospital Hoard on Wednesday, the resignation of Dr. Paget as medical superintendent was considered, the following motion being carried: "That before accepting the offer of Dr. Pagct's resignation he be asked whether ho is willing to accept £250 per annum m full payment for his duties as medical superintendent as defined by the by-laws, with an assistant at £75 per annum." Dr. Paget asked for a little time wherein to consider his reply, and it was resolved that a meeting be held on October 2nd to receive his decision. Archdeacon Averill, of St. Michael's, has accepted election to the bishopric of Waiapu (states a Press, wire from Christclrarch). The consecration of the bishop-elect will probably take place iif Xapier in January, as the General Synod meet in Wellington at about the end of that month and the new dignntary will be able to take his seat with the other bishops. The standing committees in the different dioceses in New Zealand are still to give their consent to the election, but this may be regarded as a matter of form. Arcndeacon Averill will not take his departure from Christchurch before the New Year.
