EDUCATION BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Educatfon Board was hell last night. Present: Messrs Jas. Wade (chairman), Adlam, Young, Morison, Trimble, Rogers and Morton. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The chairman's report was read ani adopted. It recorded the followiag temporary appointments: Waitara, first assistant, Miss H. Brunton; Salisbury, assistant mistress, Miss J. Auld; Hurimoana and Tahora, sole teacher, Hit H. Catton. The Board's overseer had fairly well completed the repairs to the schools as far -as Opunake, 'and tlu chairman had aow directed him to eo j into the East ward and report on tlie I repairs necessary to the schools about I Toko.

CADET APPOINTMENTS. The Board approved of the following appointments recommended by Major Sandford, commanding the No". 1 battalion of cadets:—Mr. S. Mills, lieutenant in charge of the Bell Block, Hil'sborough and Tarurutangi detachment; Mr. C. Evetts, captain, West End; Mr. C. Wilkins, lieutenant, Waitara.

GENERAL The action of Tututawa Committee in altering the date of the midwinter holiday was approved. , It being reported that the teacher ai the Kent road school had been absent on account of illness, without notice having been given to the Board, it was decided that her attention be called to clause 27 of the regulations. The Mangaehu Committee's action in closing their school on account of an epidemic in the district was confirmed. On account of illness, leave of absence was granted to Mr. S. Wyllie, headmaster at Waitara, and Miss Elsie Parli, pupil teacher at Stratford. The Board was advised that Messrs G. Carson (Wanganui) and" C. M. Whittmgton (Hawke's Bay) had been nominated for the position of a member of the committee of advice of the Wellington Training College.—The Board decided to support Mr. Carson.
