SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Board of School Commissioners was held on Friday, there being present Messrs. J. Wade (in the chair), Simpson, Jennings, M.P., and Major. THE LATE MR. FAULL. The secretary reported the death of Mr. Henry Faull, and stated that he (the secretary) had notified the Taranaki Education Board to proceed with the election of a representative in plate of the deceased gentleman. It was moved by Mr. Major, and seconded by Mr. Jennings, that the members of .the Board desire to tender to Mrs. Faull and the members of the lat» Mr. Faull's family, their condolence in the bereavement they had suffered, and at the same time to express their hish appreciation of the capable and onero.is services rendered by the deceased gentleman during the many years he had acted as a member of the Taranaki Board of School Commissioners. / A CONCESSION. The'committee (the chairman anil V Jennings) reported that they hail visited the re.-ervvs in the occupation of .Mr. (!. A. Co]son. and were of opinion that in view of the necessity for constant vigilance and periodically recurring outl.v to prevent the spread of and eradicate noxious weeds, which had obtained such a hold upon the land, it would be right to make Mr. Colson a concession.

This was accordingly done provided that at all times the lessee use special diligence to effectually eradicate noxious weeds growing on the land.

LAND FUND,

The secretary reported that in terms of the resolution passed at the lastmeeting of the Board he had visited Wellington and interviewed the Secretary for Education and the Auditor and Controller General, with the result that adjustment of the land fund had noiv been made, and the sum of .C 1572 15s 4d forming that fund o n December 31st last had been apportioned as follows:—Primary account: Principal moneys ,t(i4a 10s Id, accrued interest thereon" £25 7s '><.. Secondary account: Principal moneys £790 4s 2d, accrued interest thereon £45 7s 7d. This adjustment would enable the separate interests comprised in the land fund to he kept distinct, whiithe revenue would have to be treated a> part of the ordinary income of the Board for the maintenance of primary and secondary education and not for investment purposes. On the motion of Messrs. Major ami Jennings, the secretary's report was approved.

It was decided, on the motion of Messrs. -Major and .Simpson, that the following'transfers be approved subject to the usual conditions:—W. L. I<\ Jenkins to J. J. Walker and C. Duff, section lit, block 7, Omona S.D.; E. Mossnian to Hi my and Vivian T. Shclverton, sec Hon 4, biocl; 8, Ohura S.D. 'Jlic board's solicitor reported details respecting several awards which were approved. 'flic ranger (Mr. G. A. Marchant) reported that certain properties which had given much trouble i,i the past were now Being satisfactorily dealt with. . Mr. D. Hole reporled on a number of town properties, and mentioned that owing to the burden of years lie wouid not be able to act for the Hoard as in the past. The treasurer reported a balance ol £2021) 13s lid, and on the motion of Messrs Jennings and Major was authorised to pay out £14)00 on account of primary education and £IOO on account of secondary education. Several applications for conversion ol tenure were granted. Several mortgages were approved. Mr. G. A. Marchant was appointed sole arbitrator at the request of Mr. 1. U. Brooking in connection with the lonewal of the hitter's lease of southern part of section 107, block 11, N"airc

It was agreed, on the application of Mr. .1. \\ i|li S; that a surrender of his present lease be accepted and to issue separate leases in the original terms at the rental- fixed at auction for section 1, block 15. I'onatu S.D., and section IS, block 4, Xgatimaru S.D.
